My name is Henrik Arnstad, I am a Swedish journalist covering among other things foreign affairs and foreign policy.<\/p>\n
In todays Dagens Nyheter, ambassador Wood is stating concerning the attack on Iraq that it was not — as stated in the U.N. before the attack — mounted to disarm Iraq of weapons of mass destruction. It was done because “you have to stand up against evil” (my translation). Therefore I have two questions to the ambassador:<\/p>\n
1. Where in the context of international law is it stated that “you have to stand up against evil” is legal ground for attacking a soverign state, even if the U.N. Security Council has not approved the attack?<\/p>\n
2. Does this mean that “you have to stand up against evil” is now — according to the U.S. — a statement enough for any country to attack another country, without any consequences?<\/p>\n
I look forward to having the answers from the ambassador to those questions.<\/p>\n
